Montgomery County Booking Photo Records
A booking photograph records appearance during a specific arrest or commitment. It does not show guilt, later case disposition, present custody, or what happened after release. Montgomery County does not publish an official release gallery or roster-photo archive, so there is no dependable public page where a released person's jail image remains available. The photo must be sought from the agency that created or holds it.
North Carolina law authorizes photographs in specified booking and commitment circumstances under G.S. 15A-502. That authority does not require the Sheriff to post every image on the web. Chapter 132 may support a targeted public-record request, but criminal investigation records, confidential material, sealed or expunged records, juvenile records, security concerns, and other legal limits can affect disclosure. The custodian decides whether to disclose, redact, or cite a lawful basis for withholding.
A photo also remains tied to its original event. Release does not turn it into a current identity picture. Use a release record, court disposition, or correctional record for present status instead of inferring status from an old image.

An NCDAC correctional image belongs to a state record and may have been made at a different time and facility. For one named county booking, the records request is the most direct route. For state imprisonment, search NCDAC by offender number when possible and read the inactive or active history. A state release can be followed by supervision, so a photo and a past Actual Release Date do not establish that all correctional control ended.
Montgomery Sheriff App Photo Limits
The official Montgomery County Sheriff NC app is an OCV outreach product. Its public storefront text mentions reporting crimes, submitting tips, and interactive communication. It does not document inmate lookup, a release list, or a mugshot feature. The app's existence cannot support a claim that booking photographs can be searched there.

Search engines can also surface a Montgomery County portal from another state. The CountyGovServices page that lists an address in Montgomery, Alabama is not a North Carolina source. Its recent-arrests language is not a release gallery in any event. Jurisdiction, office address, and state should be checked before treating any page or image as a Montgomery County, North Carolina record.
Request Montgomery County Booking Photos

- Identify the person by full name and provide the approximate booking dates. Add a date of birth only if known and lawfully supplied.
- Give the booking number or court case number when available. State that the request concerns one booking episode.
- Ask for the existing public booking sheet and booking photograph, plus the release date, time, and disposition if those records are also needed.
- Prefer electronic delivery. Request advance notice of any charge and ask that any withheld portion be identified with its legal basis.
- Keep the agency response with the identifying booking details so the photo is not detached from its source and event.
G.S. 132-6 supports inspection and copying at reasonable times. G.S. 132-6.2 generally ties an uncertified copy charge to actual reproduction cost, while extensive assistance can support a reasonable special-service charge. A news story or official press release can retain an event-specific image after the person leaves custody. G.S. 15A-502 authorizes booking photographs in set circumstances but does not mandate online publication.
A public photo and a private copy can follow different paths. An agency may correct its own mistaken link or record. A publisher controls its copy, subject to law. Payment to a third party is not required to ask an official source to correct official information, and no removal service is endorsed.
Montgomery Expunction Photo Steps
Expunction is a court process that can remove, seal, or segregate covered state records as the governing order and statute direct. Eligibility depends on the charge or conviction, disposition, age, prior record, and waiting rules. It is not automatic when a person leaves jail, and release alone does not remove a booking image.
The petition is filed in the county of charge or conviction. For a Montgomery County case, the Clerk of Superior Court at 108 E. Main Street in Troy is the local procedural anchor. A general filing fee may apply, with statutory exceptions for certain dismissed or not-guilty matters and other cases.
A granted order does not automatically erase every independent private copy. If state court-system information remains after relief, contact the clerk that granted the order. Keep the original granted order safe. The state guide warns that after covered files and the order are destroyed, another copy may not be available. That preservation step is especially important when asking an agency or publisher to correct an old photograph later.

A booking image answers a narrow identity question about a past booking. It should be paired with a current source before drawing any conclusion about custody. If the county jail says the person transferred to Southern Correctional Institution or another state prison, the state image and OPI history become relevant. A movement between prisons is still not release. If OPI shows an Actual Release Date, review any active probation, parole, or post-release supervision status as a separate stage.
Juvenile records follow different confidentiality rules. Adult jail, NCDAC, photo, and VINELink searches should not be used to pursue a public juvenile mugshot or release record. An authorized parent, guardian, attorney, or other authorized person should use Juvenile Justice or the juvenile court route.
