Montgomery VINE Release Coverage
North Carolina calls the service North Carolina Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification, or NC SAVAN, and directs users to VINELink. The service is free. State material says custody information may be checked anonymously, and the person being tracked is not told who registered. Access is available through the VINELink website or app and by telephone at 1-877-NC-SAVAN, which is 1-877-627-2826.
The local connection is direct. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Public Resources page links NC SAVAN. State policy says county jails use SAVAN, while state prison data connects through the state correctional system. This supports a named-person Montgomery County custody check, but it does not turn VINELink into a complete sheriff release log.
A county jail result and a state prison result can describe different custody. Read the reporting agency and location. A person transferred from Montgomery County Detention Center to NCDAC may stop appearing under the jail while remaining in state custody. Federal Bureau of Prisons, ICE, and U.S. Marshals records require their own agency channels.

Search One Montgomery VINE Record
VINELink is a one-person search, not a feed of everyone released today. Start with the best name or identifier available. Identity matters because common names can return more than one result, and the same person can have records from different agencies.
- Open North Carolina VINELink and choose the People search.
- Enter the family or last name and given name. Use an offered offender or booking identifier when known.
- Compare the identity details and reporting agency before opening a match. Do not select a record only because the name looks similar.
- Open the matching custody record and read the displayed status and location. Note whether the source is the Montgomery jail or state prison system.
- If the person remains in participating custody, use the notification control on that exact record.
A no-match does not prove release. The name may be misspelled, the identifier may differ, data may lag, the agency may not participate in the same way, or a transfer may have moved the person to another system. Montgomery VINE Release Fields
Display fields vary by reporting agency and interface version. Official sources support custody information, agency or location context, identity search, and registration for qualifying changes. A production screen must control the exact label used at that moment. Do not promise a literal Released label or a fixed set of fields on every Montgomery County record.

State policy identifies prison events such as a projected release date after admission audit, release with supervision, release without supervision, escape, recapture, minimum-custody placement, and death among notification triggers. Those are not all ordinary community releases. Each event must be read by its exact type.
A release alert means the reporting custody event occurred. It does not show every public field in the jail release sheet, certify the exact minute of exit, or rule out another hold. Ask the reporting agency for the release or transfer record when those facts matter.
Register Montgomery VINE Release Alerts
Register only after matching the person and reporting agency. The live interface may offer phone, text, or email. Offered options can differ, so use the controls displayed on the matching record rather than assume every channel is available for every agency.
- Select the notification or registration control attached to the correct custody record.
- Choose an offered phone, text, or email channel and enter the requested contact information.
- Complete the contact verification shown by the interface. Check the address or number before confirming.
- For telephone alerts, create or enter the requested PIN. Keep it available to acknowledge a call.
- Finish confirmation and retain the registration details needed to update or cancel the alert.
When a telephone alert arrives, enter the PIN to acknowledge it. Official NCDPS policy says calls repeat at intervals for 24 hours when the PIN is not entered. The PIN both confirms receipt and stops that repeat-call sequence. It should not be confused with an offender number or court case number.
NC SAVAN lists Victim Support Services at 1-866-719-0108 for help. The main automated access number is 1-877-627-2826. Neither number replaces the Montgomery jail’s 910-576-4261 line for an exact custody, release, or transfer question.
Note: A VINE registration adds notice for one matched record; it does not create a countywide recent-release list.
Montgomery Registry Movement Alerts
North Carolina also uses a SAVAN telephone-alert layer for a named person on the Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry or for movement into a selected ZIP code. That service is distinct from a jail-custody release alert. The Montgomery Sheriff’s local NC SAVAN link does not merge the two event types.
The SBI telephone-alert information concerns registered-offender movement. The public state registry search covers only people legally required to register. It is not a list of all released people, and registry presence does not prove when someone left custody.

Registry information changes, and names or birth dates are not unique. SBI states that fingerprint comparison is the method for positive identification. Report an apparent inaccuracy or nonregistration to the Sheriff rather than infer a violation from an alert or result.
Montgomery VINE Search Limits
VINE depends on data from participating reporting agencies. Updates can lag. A record can disappear or fail to match after a transfer, spelling difference, delayed entry, nonparticipating custody, or interface change. No result is therefore inconclusive.
For a federal prison case, the BOP locator can show many current and former federal prisoners. A BOP status of Released or Not in BOP Custody concerns BOP custody only. ICE uses its Online Detainee Locator for current and some recent immigration custody. A transfer from the Montgomery jail to either system is not release to the community.
Juvenile custody follows confidential Juvenile Justice and court channels. Do not use adult VINELink, OPI, or jail tools to seek a public juvenile release record. An authorized parent, guardian, attorney, or other qualified person should contact Juvenile Justice or the juvenile court channel.
Confirm Montgomery VINE Events
After an alert, identify the reporting agency. For Montgomery County Detention Center, call 910-576-4261 and ask whether the event was release to the community, transfer, or another custody change. When documentary proof is needed, request the public booking/release record from the Sheriff and give the name, booking episode, and date range.
For Southern Correctional Institution or another state prison, check NCDAC Offender Public Information. Read Actual Release Date, service status, and both incarceration and supervision headers. A prison release may be followed by active PRS, parole, or probation.
The court case supplies the legal reason for release, such as bond, dismissal, judgment, or sentence completion. It may not show the exact minute physical processing ended or whether another agency took custody. Pair the court event with the custodian’s record.
VINE is strongest as timely notice for one matched person. It is not a certified record, a permanent archive, or a bulk list. The agency that created the custody event remains the final source for exact timing and disposition.
