Verify Montgomery County Supervision

Montgomery County parole and probation records answer different questions about a person after release. Probation comes from a court order, parole applies mainly to eligible older-law sentences, and post-release supervision follows many current felony prison terms. To verify Montgomery County post-release supervision, match the person in the state correctional record and read both incarceration and supervision fields. A prison release date alone does not show that all correctional control ended. Current status, the most recent supervision period, and the responsible state office must be read together.

Montgomery Parole and Probation

North Carolina uses three related community statuses. They are not interchangeable. Probation is a sentence or condition imposed by a court, often instead of some or all active jail or prison time. Parole is a discretionary early release mechanism for parole-eligible terms, chiefly offenses committed before Structured Sentencing began. Post-release supervision, often shortened to PRS, is the required supervised period after many current-law felony prison terms. NCDAC Community Supervision provides field supervision for all three.

A person may leave Southern Correctional Institution and still appear active under Community Supervision. That is a prison release followed by supervision, not a contradiction. A person released on bond from Montgomery County Detention Center, however, does not become an NCDAC supervisee unless a separate court judgment or state correctional record places that person on probation, parole, or PRS.

StatusHow it beginsWhat release means
ProbationA North Carolina court orders community supervision. The person may avoid or follow active custody, subject to the judgment.
ParoleThe state Commission grants eligible discretionary release.Prison custody ends, but parole conditions remain.
Post-release supervisionCurrent sentencing law places a qualifying prison release under supervision. The incarceration period ends before the full sentence and supervision period end.
Discharge
The recorded end of a supervision period or sentence.
Absconder
A supervisee whom NCDAC reports as no longer complying with required contact or location rules.
Revocation
An official action that cancels community supervision and may return a person to custody.

Check Montgomery Post-Release Supervision

The authoritative public starting point is NCDAC Offender Public Information, known as OPI. The web address and some labels still use older DPS wording, but NCDAC operates the adult corrections system. Its records can include prison and Community Supervision information dating to 1972. It does not include a county-jail-only booking that never led to state prison, probation, parole, or PRS.

  1. Use the NCDAC offender number when known. Otherwise enter the last and first names, then use allowed age or identity details only to separate similar records.
  2. Select Active Probationer-Parolee, or search all statuses when the current category is uncertain.
  3. Open the matching person record. Compare the header’s Inmate Status with Probation/Parole/Post Release Status.
  4. Read the most recent supervision period, not just an older incarceration block or its Actual Release Date.
  5. Use the current Community Supervision office directory to verify the responsible field office before calling or traveling.

An inactive label needs context. It might reflect completed supervision, sentence expiration, a later custody event, or another closure. Preserve the offender number and ask NCDAC to clarify the public record when dates or status blocks conflict. The broader Montgomery County released-inmate search paths help separate a sheriff jail release from a state prison discharge.

Note: An Actual Release Date closes one incarceration period; it does not by itself close later parole, probation, or post-release supervision.

Montgomery Supervision Office Verification

NCDAC divides Community Supervision among judicial divisions, districts, and local field offices. An older official Montgomery resource sheet lists Community Corrections in Troy at the courthouse address and gives a local phone number. That sheet is useful for orientation, but it is dated. The live directory or the Division’s central office should confirm the current location and contact before anyone visits.

The older Troy listing is 108 E. Main Street, Troy, with 910-572-1985. It should not be treated as a guaranteed current walk-in location. Office assignments may also follow the county of supervision rather than the jail or prison from which the person was released. Ask staff to route the inquiry using the offender number and current supervision record.

The official NCDAC supervision page shows the agency context used for Montgomery County. Its published screen gives a better foundation than an unofficial directory.

Montgomery Supervision Conditions

Conditions come from the court, the Commission, and governing law. The exact terms belong in the judgment, supervision record, or Commission paperwork, not in a general search result. Common supervision work includes reporting as directed and complying with location or control requirements, but no one should infer an individual condition without the source record.

PRS is conditional and can be revoked. Under G.S. 15A-1368.3, specified violations, including certain absconding or control violations, can result in return to prison for a remaining term. Other cases may involve statutory three-month revocation periods. A new incarceration block or changed status can therefore follow an earlier release date.

VINE custody alerts serve another job. They may report qualifying movement or custody events, but they do not replace the OPI supervision history or a court order. When a person is arrested after an alleged violation, confirm the new custody with the holding agency and the case with the issuing court.

Note: Supervision conditions are person-specific; use the actual judgment, Commission order, or NCDAC record rather than a general summary.

Montgomery Parole Commission Role

The North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission sets PRS conditions and decides eligible parole matters statewide. There is no Montgomery County parole board. Ordinary parole mainly concerns eligible older-law cases, while many current felony releases use PRS. The Commission’s role should not be confused with field supervision by the Division of Community Supervision.

Monthly case-review material may show Commission work, but it is not a complete live supervision directory. Use OPI for the person’s public correctional status. Direct a question about a Commission decision or condition to the Commission, and a current field-office question to Community Supervision.

Montgomery Reentry Contact Check

An official NCDPS Montgomery resource sheet lists Community Corrections-Troy alongside NC TASC-Troy, the county Department of Social Services, DMV, and other local contacts. This creates a useful reentry navigation layer for someone leaving custody or entering supervision. It does not establish that each office serves every person or that the old phone and location details remain current.

Start with the Montgomery resources sheet, then verify each listed service with the current agency before travel. Ask only for the service actually needed. Community Supervision handles correctional status and officer routing; another listed office may handle a separate public service. The dated sheet must not override the current NCDAC directory.

This local distinction matters because a Montgomery County conviction, a Troy office listing, and a prison release do not always place the person in the same county. Supervision assignment follows the current correctional record. A person released elsewhere may still have a Montgomery case, while someone released in Montgomery may report to another county.

Montgomery Supervision Discharge

Supervision ends through an official discharge or sentence-ending event, not merely because an older prison term shows Actual Release Date. Read the most recent OPI supervision period and header status. Successful completion of PRS terminates the sentence under the applicable statute, while probation and parole end under their own court or Commission authority.

A violation may interrupt that path. Revocation can return a person to custody, and later records may supersede an earlier release entry. For that reason, preserve the offender number and compare all dated periods. When an online history is hard to reconcile, request the public portion of the state correctional record through NCDAC public records, naming the person, offender number, and relevant supervision dates.

A complete verification answers three points: when incarceration ended, whether parole, probation, or PRS followed, and whether that supervision is now active or discharged. Those dates can differ. The current directory and agency response provide the best routing when OPI does not fully explain them.
